My
Brother

Promises of grandeur
A world full of dreams
It's hard not to get caught up
In the whirlwind that is him.
He breezes straight through
Feet off the ground, head in the clouds
We hang on his every word
Losing reality as we go
It's so easy to believe
In a future so great
It's so easy to visit
The world in which he resides
But when he leaves
And takes the circus away
We are left with nothing
But the silence of our imaginations.

Why do we?

Why is it we think
That we suffer from immortality?
Why do we think
That we are surrounded by a shield
Of youth and naivety
That will somehow
Protect us from the world.
It's never us that are affected
Problems always seem far away
And our senses are dulled to pain.
But when do we learn
That we can't always be saved?
When do we learn
That our bones and spirits
Can be broken?
Why is it that we always learn
From the mistakes that we make
When just one mistake can mean
That we will never learn
Anything ever again.

A Minute

A bleak night sky
No moon shining
No stars to reach out for
The music is quiet
But the silence is too loud
A minute passes, I wait
I do not hear the phone
And no one comes through the door
Another one goes, just like the last
It is then that I realize
One minute can change a life
It is then that I realize
That tonight, it has changed many
The words from our lips
The creases on our faces
And what we feel in our hearts
All changed in a minute
Like the one that has just passed.
